SNK’s legendary fighters such as Terry Bogard and Kyo Kusanagi, attempt to master the “New Face Team” (or the “KOF ’97 Special Team”)!
Hidden characters from the NEO GEO version are now directly available on the character select screen. This allows you to easily defeat your opponent with Orochi Iori and Orochi Leona.
Enjoy the “Affinity system” for the first time and select your team members according to their affinity. Then, enjoy the pre-match interactions with them!
# Two modes to increase the game’s depth
Two different game modes are available in KOF ’97: EXTRA AND ADVANCED. You will master the system that suits you best and your opponents the most!
ADVANCED MODE
You can use a variety of jumps to cause pain to your enemy. If you believe that the offense is the best defense, this is a must!
Stock up on Power Gauges to enable you to go into MAX mode and unleash devastating Desperation Moves
Depending on your characters’ affinity, get extra Power gauges even after losing a round!
EXTRA MODE
If you’re feeling rushed, use the Evade move to send your opponent flying!
To automatically enter Power Max mode, fill your Power gauge for a certain amount of time.
Your health bar will blink red when you get close to exhaustion. Once it does, you can unleash your Desperation Moves until you’re the last one standing.

You can either play the game the way it was intended with only four buttons or you can use the new control scheme with six buttons settings and the simplified special moves with the SP button.
